Dell PowerEdge R640 - 8-Bay SFF Scalability

36 CPU Cores & SSD Redundancy

November is here and with it the end of the year right behind it! We’re starting off this month with a deal aimed at providing good performance at a phenomenal price! The Dell R640 server was produced to offer a range of options with support for scaling all the way up to large scale datacenters. Having been a few years since release though, for any homelab enthusiasts or budget minded patrons looking to optimize their environment with enterprise grade hardware, this unit is a perfect fit!

Even without the highest end option in this server which would cost substantially more, the Xeon Gold 6140 CPUs selected here offer 36 total physical CPU cores that allow for a wide range of tasks and versatile usage. Whether you’re hosting more than a handful of VMs, remote sessions, or simply opening browser sessions in bulk for simulations or research, your server will enjoy having the extra cores to use over a smaller option. The system compute performance is aided by 64GB of RAM, which can be allocated to a fair number of those example tasks. If you find yourself needing more RAM, you can easily do so with the server’s 24 total DIMM slots, of which only 4 are used. Adding more as needed is simple, with our upgrade option at the bottom of the listing page.

Rounding out the server’s performance is a pair of 1TB SATA SSDs in a RAID 1 array for system storage. Mirroring these two drives allows for redundancy in the case of a failure and ensures you peace of mind. Of course, we still always recommend backing up regularly for your important data as RAID is never a replacement for backups. Having new condition SSDs to aid your server’s lifespan and ability in data read and writes allows for ease of use in your tasks or in boosting your OS while other future or preexisting drives you move over to the server handle more data later on.

As an R640 server under $1000, we believe we’re set to move a number of these machines, so make sure you get one while you can! If there are any upgrades you’re looking to make to this server beyond the related products at the bottom of the listing page, please reach out to see if we can be of any help to you! We aim to help before the server is purchased in that event, but will help just as well if after the unit arrives. As our Deal of the Week Servers typically include our 1 Year Premium Hardware Warranty, you’re in good hands if you do find yourself needing assistance by reaching out to our friendly staff!

Warranty Information

To ensure the best product is sent to our customers, all systems are built to order from the ground up, fully tested, updated, and warrantied. We do not dropship any system. Every unit is built in-house by a team of expert engineers. The engineers check and test all components that go into every system. Once all testing is completed, they initiate hardware updates and begin the warranty process. A full build audit is then generated and stored into our database with the order number. This audit includes a list of every component and their respective serial numbers. A shortened version of this audit will be included with the warranty paperwork shipped with each system.
