Dell R230 - Easily Deployable Short Depth Server
While we’ve certainly made sure to offer a wide variety of highly scalable servers over the past number of weeks, we’re taking this new week as an opportunity to go in a different direction. While many servers are known for being quite large, this week we’re offering a handpicked unit for those looking for a short depth machine. This Dell R230 server is the perfect choice for those that only need a lightweight solution that has a depth measuring under 20”. With that form factor, this machine is well suited for wall mounted racks or areas with similarly smaller room for deployment.
Intended for use in edge case scenarios, such as a gateway, DNS server, or session logger, this unit will be a great choice where a lower-powered yet commercial grade machine is needed. With a PSU rated at just 250W, you can expect to keep power draw low while this unit stays in continuous use. Key enterprise level remote functionally is still standard on this machine with the standard iDRAC express IPMI controller. Even though the computing power is relatively small at 4 physical cores and 32GB of RAM, you’ll still be able to host 4x higher-capacity large form factor drives. It is worth noting however, that as a budget-focused build, we’re just including the onboard S130 software RAID controller, which only hosts SATA devices. Any SAS drives you intend to use will not be able to be configured on the server as is.
